Marla and Deshawn's wedding
Marla and Deshawn were married October 8 and as Marla's sister Sarah said, the couple looked like they had just stepped off of a cloud! Marla was gorgeous in a short white dress, silver sequin pumps and a sparkly tiara that was fit for a princess. She carried a bouquet of pink roses and white calla lilies that completed her storybook appearance. DeShawn rocked a Pink Paisley tuxedo jacket and pale pink pants and finished off the look with white patent leather shoes and a white fedora. They were a stunning and striking couple and turned many heads while we were in Battery Park for their portrait session prior to the wedding ceremony.
The weekend actually started on Saturday, when the bride-to-be led her last yoga class before becoming MRS. MARLA THOMAS. Her bridesmaids and fellow yogis were onboard as TEAM BRIDE to start celebrating the coming event!
Marla is the owner of Queen City Bikram yoga studio in South Burlington and I have been her student for about a year and a half. Marla is larger than life and her love of yoga is almost as great as her love for DeShawn! I can't begin to describe how beautiful this person is -- "bones to skin" and how honored I was to be photographing her wedding!
At Marla and Deshawn's home the following morning, it was a buzz of excitement as family spread out to get ready- the talented Heather Leibenguth from O'Briens Salon Essex was onhand doing hair and makeup!
The portrait session was chaotic but so fun. Both Marla and Deshawn have close and loving families, strong sibling bonds and very special friends. The love was flowing!!
In the courtyard of the Hilton Burlington, Marla and Deshawn exchanged vows in front of over 200 friends and family members. Sister Sarah became "ordained" for the day so that she could officiate at the ceremony and Marla's other sister, Gina, was her maid of honor.
My heart sings when I see a teary groom...
Before the couple exchanged rings, Deshawn presented Marla's daughter Nica with a gold bracelet and asked her if she would accept him into her family. She gave an enthusiastic YES! Deshawn's children, Rianna and Caiden, also accepted Marla into their family! The love fest continued.
With the ceremony finished, it was time to start the party... and was it ever a party! The Hilton ballroom was transformed into a pink and white wonderland and Musician and DJ extraordinaire Craig Mitchell was in charge all night. He kept the dance floor busy and he killed it with his Prince impression (Mitchell's Prince Tribute Band, "Operation Price" is AMAZING!)
I shot this wedding with my dear friend and "second shooter" Jude Domski and together we took about 5000 pictures. After much painful editing, I ended up with just under 1500 images and if you'd like to see them all (or any portion of them) please follow this link and get the password from either Marla or Deshawn!
Marla and Deshawn, thank you for trusting me with your wedding day! I am so moved that I could bare witness to your love and document your celebration. I am deeply happy for you both! xo
