Brad and Elise were married during peak foliage this fall at the West Monitor Barn in Richmond. It was my last wedding of the season and what a way to end! It was an amaaaaazing day!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

We started the day with a first look for the bride and groom and it almost brought tears to my eyes. They were both so excited to see each other in their wedding outfits!

Elise approached…

It was was such a memorable day and I created a love-filled slide show to the music of Vermont’s own Kat Wright– So, go find a laptop to watch this (because it’s made in FLASH and wont run on your iPhone or iPad-sorry!)

Becky and Kathleen’s wedding

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Becky and Kathleen were married on a crisp, clear day September day at Harmony Golf Club in Port Kent, NY.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The brides each wore white- accompanied by matching silver chucks.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

They each carried bouquets of gorgeous calla lillies. But, the flowers they ordered were coming from Florida and didn’t get to New York because of the hurricane. So, what do two level headed brides do? Go to Price chopper, buy more flowers and, with the help of friends, put together centerpieces, bouquets and boutonnieres themselves.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Kathleen and Becky got ready at a house on the lake…

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

…under the watchful eye of their dog, Libby (the CUTEST dog in New York!)

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

We made a pit stop at Kathleen‘s childhood home and made some beautiful portraits. Then it was on to the venue.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The ceremony was so full of love, and everyone, including the brides bounced between laughter and tears throughout the celebration.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Everyone reacted when Kathleen went to soothe Becky, who kept crying while trying to read her vows. It was such a tender moment and I just felt enormous happiness for them!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Whoot Whoot! We’re MARRIED!!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

There were so many personal little details at the reception, from the centerpieces to the baskets of apples, to the table of cupcakes (which everyone wanted to dive into even before dinner!)

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

One of so many loving moments- this one during Becky and Kathleen‘s first dance…

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Lots of celebrity dancing…
karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

and fun photo opps!

Becky’s sons, Alex, 19, and Noah,14, couldn’t resist taking one of the golf carts out for a spin:
karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Like sons, like Mothers! Becky and Kathleen did the same!
karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

There are SO many pictures that I want to show, so here’s 140 of my favorites set to the music of the Indigo Girls (a favorite of the brides!) Put down your iPhone and go get a laptop so you can watch this wonderful FLASH slideshow recapping Becky and Kathleen‘s love-filled day:

Kelly and Jen’s wedding

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

Jen and Kelly were married in September and I am thrilled to finally have their wedding pictures ready so I can blog about there awesomeness!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

This is one of those weddings that you just have to let the pictures tell the story because every image shows both their love for each other and the love they have for their family and friends.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

The venue was ALMOST as gorgeous as the brides- Headwaters Farm in Rochester, complete with a beautiful barn for the reception, a pond as a setting for portraits  and a view of the mountains as a backdrop for the ceremony.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

The ceremony was heartfelt and emotional. And it began with guests entering the ceremony area by walking through a DOORWAY created by the brides. Over the doorway read, “As soon as I saw you, I knew a Grand Adventure was about to happen!” ( a quote by AA Milne from Winnie The Pooh)

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

From there, everything was magical:

Chris and Rick’s Wedding

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

Every once and awhile, I photograph a wedding that is so spectacular, I literally have trouble editing the pictures down to a manageable number and an even harder time creating a blogpost and slideshow. THIS IS THAT WEDDING!. Between me and my (fabulously talented) second shooter Jen Kiewit, we shot close to 4000 pictures!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

Chris and Rick were married on September 26 at the breathtakingly gorgeous Bliss Ridge in Moretown, Vt. The couple got ready at Sugarbush Resort’s Clay Brook Hotel and they looked stunning in their matching grey custom Indochino suits. Of course, their hairstylist was good friend and “stylist to the stars” Don O’Connell of O’m Studio in Burlington.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

This was such a tender moment when Rick and Chris exchanged wedding gifts at the hotel. Rick definitely got weepy when Chris gave him a Daniel Wellington watch with the inscription,“Forever 11:11” (11s have played a big part in their relationship). Chris gave Rick a framed picture was the lyrics to Myra Flynn’s “For The Record” – the song Rick proposed to and that they would later that day have Myra playing for them  as they walk down the aisle.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

The whole day was like something out of the movies–from the jaw-dropping mountain vista that served as the backdrop for the ceremony, to Myra Flynn serenading the couple and their guests on a baby grand piano, to the YUMMY food (catered by Misery Loves Company), gorgeous flowers by Emily von Trapp and every playful, joyous detail of the decor. Really, all I can say is, “WOW”!

Bridget and Karen’s Wedding

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

Karen and Bridget are hands down, one of the most lovely and loving couples I have ever had the privilege of photographing.
karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

Their wedding day was nothing short of EPIC and from the minute I arrived at the venue off a dirt road in Jeffersonville, I knew it was going to be a spectacular day.  Both the old fashioned bicycle at the entrance of  Sterling Ridge resort  and the sweet sleepy dog by the welcome sign, brought a huge smile to my face and it just grew wider by the hour.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

As the saying goes, it’s all in the DETAILS! And there were so many amazing, creative, fun and loving little details. The Tandem Bicycle theme was perfect and so much played off this throughout the event–from the invitations to the wedding cake topper and so much more in between. Most important, it represented perfectly how “in tandem” Bridget and Karen are in life. In fact, that’s what’s inscribed in their wedding bands!!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

The brides both wore white gowns and carried bouquets which highlighted big, happy yellow sunflowers. Their hair and makeup were done by friends and they both looked exquisite from head to toe (Karen in sneakers, and Bridget in flat slippers!)

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

The wedding took place by a pond, with the mountains as a backdrop. It couldn’t have been prettier. The bridal procession was like a parade- dozens of friends and family lead the way first down the aisle, and then came Bridget and Karen, each escorted by their parents.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

The ceremony was officiated by a close friend and Love was free flowing from the first reading to the final I DO’s!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

Oh, and lots of laughter, too!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

You may now kiss!

Introducing Mrs. and Mrs...

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

So, now comes the super special 10-minute video slideshow recapping this epic day to a medley including Bridget and Karen’s gorgeous First Dance song, Brandi Carlile‘s “I Belong To You”, and a couple of other surprises. This is pretty special, so go find a laptop or a computer that allows you to see FLASH (I curse Steve Jobs for not allowing that on an iPhone!)

Whitney an Ryan Get Married!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

Whitney and Ryan were married last month in Portland, Oregon, and I was thrilled to be asked to fly out from Vermont and photograph this celebration. The bride’s mother (Mimi) is a dear old friend and I had already shot the wedding of her oldest daughter, Helen, in 2009. When Mimi told me that Whitney was going to “Jump The Broom” with Ryan, I couldn’t wait to document the big event.

I love this picture of Mimi and Mimi’s mother, Mops, looking at Whitney after getting into her wedding dress:

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

Whitney looked like a princess in her gown and floor length veil. And Ryan was equally gorgeous in his 3-piece grey suit and the purple checked tie!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

The couple’s FIRST LOOK at each other took place near their apartment at Laurelhurst Park.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

And as lovely as the surroundings were, it paled in comparison to Whitney and Ryan’s love-soaked and happy faces when they held each other!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

Now, this is LOVE!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

and BEAUTY!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

We made one last stop before heading to the wedding venue to show off both the couple AND city of Portland!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

The wedding was being held downtown at the Adrianna Hill Grand Ballroom. We did all of the family and bridal party portraits right nearby at Pioneer Courthouse Square, affectionately known as Portland’s living room, and home of the iconic bronze Umbrella Man statue named “ALLOW ME” (Thanks, Mimi, for educating me about this!)

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

How Fun!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

Now, onto the wedding!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

It just doesn’t get prettier than this! Proud Dad (Peter) walks his little girl down the aisle…

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

The ceremony was officiated by Ryan’s Grandmother. So sweet!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

You may now kiss!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

Wahoo!! An exuberant MARRIED couple leads the recessional…

Presenting Mr. and Mrs….

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

Whitney and Ryan take the floor for their first dance..

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

OK, dad’s turn…

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

And a very tender moment as Ryan dances with his mother’s best friend. His mom is no longer living, but her loving presence in the room was honored with a long stem white rose, which was placed on a front row seat during the ceremony.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

I love the origins of the wedding cake ritual. In medieval England, if a bride tasted the cake before the wedding, it meant the loss of the husband’s love, while a piece of cake after the ceremony ensured his fidelity! HAHA!
Furthermore, every guest must eat a small piece to ensure that the happy couple are blessed with children. BON APETITE, EVERYONE!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

I had never seen this before… The Shoe Game. The bride and Groom sat back to back, each holding one of their own shoes and one of their new spouse’s shoes. the DJ asked a series of questions, and the couple then raised the correct shoe of who they each thought fit the answers best. Of course, it turned into a hilarious he-said, she-said kind of thing. VERY FUN!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

What could be more fun than a CANDY TABLE, all purple of course, to match the color scheme of the wedding!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

And it isn’t really a party until there’s a rumba line!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

Lots of dancing and lots of kissing. I love weddings!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

The party ends with Whitney and Ryan exiting through a tunnel of love…

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait

This amazing celebration began on Friday evening with a super fun rehearsal dinner at a local park. Family and out-of-town guests gathered for great food and loads of laughter and there were so many nice pictures from the night that I had to create a slideshow just for that event! Take a look-or go right to the wedding slideshow, but note that both slideshows are in FLASH so you must watch it on a laptop as it’s not viewable to an IPHONE or IPAD (Thanks alot, Steve Jobs!)

REHEARSAL DINNER:

THE WEDDING slideshow is the largest I ever made-aout 12 minutes and over 200 images! I honestly couldn’t edit it down to less than that because the night was filled with so many extraordinary moments!
But I urge you to watch it, so sit back and relax and enjoy the show!

Kate & Bobby’s New Year’s weekend wedding

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Bobby and Kate were married two days after the start of 2015. It was a lovely and memorable celebration, though a bit CHILLY.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

I had done some portrait work for Bobby’s dad (Bob Sr), so I was thrilled to be the photographer for this intimate family event. It started with everyone getting ready at the Burlington Hilton:

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Such a sweet image of father and son…

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

While Bobby lives in Vermont, he has, as Billy Joel once sung, that “New York State of Mind.” Bobby’s brothers and grandmother also traveled from N.Y. to Burlington to see him exchange wedding vows with Kate.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Purple was the color of the day (Kate‘s favorite):

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Though Bob Sr. forgot his purple socks at home! Oops!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Over in Kates‘ hotel room, the color continued to inspire the dress code…

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Kate’s other accessories included her grandmother’s bracelet (something old) and her mother’s rosary (something borrowed):

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Here Comes The Bride…

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

And looking like a princess!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Of course, you can never have too many moms!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Kate‘s Dad walked her down the aisle and her dear friend officiated the ceremony, which was held at The Ice House Restaurant on Battery Street.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

It was 15 minutes of love and joy and some sweet and funny moments…

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Bob Sr. took no chances with the video portion of the ceremony coverage. He used both the handheld method as well as a secondary camera-on-tripod!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Wahoo! By the power vested by the State of Vermont, Kate and Bobby are declared married!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

After the ceremony, the couple wanted portraits on the pier at the Burlington waterfront. My fingers were completely freezing after only a few minutes, but Kate happily took off her coat to pose with her new husband!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

It was sooooo cold!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Boy, these Canadian women sure are hardy!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Back inside the warmth of the Ice House, I let my fingers defrost and Kate and Bobby celebrated with their family…

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

A picture with the cake…

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

…and the cutest ever cake topper! (Bobby is a cycling enthusiast)

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Clink the glasses, kiss the bride!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

We ended with a quick trip up to Church Street to capture that twinkly holiday feeling- and then it started snowing! Ah, the magic of love!!!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer Vermont portrait photographer

Congratulations, Bobby and Kate, and have an extraordinary 2015!!!!

John and Julie’s Post-Christmas wedding

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Julie and John extended the holiday spirit with a “Day-After-Christmas” wedding in Grand Isle. It was an intimate celebration; just immediate family, and with Julie‘s brother officiating the short and sweet ceremony.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The couple got ready at the house John is building for them. Though the structure is completed, the interior still looked like a construction zone.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Their home-to-be was easily made festive for the occassion with the addition of a Christmas tree, a few ornaments and decorations– and some beverages to drink while getting ready! The parents were all on-hand also to help John and Julie prepare.

Then off to friends’s barn for the ceremony.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

This was no ordinary barn, though, but more like a carriage house. It included a spiral staircase up to a loft and lookout tower, and a vintage red Beetle parked just inside the entrance. It looked magical under the night sky and the glow of a crescent moon.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The ceremony lasted less than five minutes.

(A Proposal) On Top of Mount Philo

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Charlie and Whitney got engaged Sunday morning on top of Mount Philo. Now, for Whitney, this was a HUGE surprise. For Charlie, though, the event was weeks in the making. He had bought the ring, had talked with Whitney‘s parents and he had just moved himself and all of his belongings up to Vermont from Texas, so to be closer to Whitney (who lives in Louden, NH).
karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Charlie called me a couple of weeks ago to see if I was available to document this life-changing event and I was thrilled to say yes. The plan was for him to hike the trail with Whitney and reach the top of Mt. Philo about 10 am. I had expected to drive up the access road, but when I arrived, it was closed! I threw my camera over my shoulder and practically ran the whole way to the to the top so I wouldn’t be late- Thankfully, Charlie and Whitney were running behind also and I had a few minutes to catch my breath before they arrived!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

It was crowded on the mountaintop and I blended right in– pretending to be just another tourist enjoying the view! I followed liesurely behind as Charlie led Whitney by the hand toward a more private spot. After a couple of minutes, Charlie discretely reached into the pocket of his fleece and then, just like that, he was down on one knee, holding the ring box open and up toward his confused and nervous girlfriend.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

And as I pressed my shutter button, I heard Whitney blurt out, “What the F-CK are you doing?!?!” and Charlie laughed.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Whitney was definitely overwhelmed and I think it took her a moment or two to grasp what was happening. Charlie rose back up, slid the ring on Whitney’s ringer and then they embraced. I was about 50 feet away, shooting pictures with a 200mm telephoto lens, and though I couldn’t hear Whitney say much more, I presumed that, through her tears and laughter, her answer was “YES”.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The ring was gorgeous, like something from the 1940’s Hollywood glam period. It had that feel of old estate jewelry, even though Charlie had the ring custom made. It fit perfectly, because Charlie had solicited help from Whitney‘s sister to find out her ring size-Good job, Charlie!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

After Whitney‘s shock subsided a bit, I introduced myself and I made some fun pictures of the couple. I loved that Whitney was so comfortable with this, even though her hair was up in a pony tail, and she wasn’t exactly dressed for a “portrait session”. Of course, she looked gorgeous (and happy) in every frame!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

We were about to head back down and I laughed as Whitney kept her left arm raised while walking, joking that she was afraid to damage the ring!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

I made pictures of the newly engaged couple all along the walk down and Charlie had fun telling Whitney about all of the little things that he had done in recent months and how he was afraid that she would figure out his plan.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The final straw, Charlie told her, was that she had met him in Vermont this weekend and forgot her hiking shoes at home. He insisted that they go shopping for new shoes so that they could go up Philo on Sunday as planned. Whitney laughed, and said that in retrospect, she couldn’t understand why he cared that much about the hike OR that her new shoes then didn’t match her old jacket and that Charlie felt it necessary to buy her a new jacket also! Bonus!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Here’s a video recap of the surprise mountaintop proposal, set against the appropriate song “Marry Me” by Bruno Mars:

And the wedding?? Stay tuned…

A Timeless Wedding

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

It started off for me like any other crazy Friday, but For ten minutes in the late afternoon, it was as if Time stood Still.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Chris and Genevra were married at Burlington City Hall and aside from a few modern details (like a computer on the desk of the clerk’s window), it could have been 1960, 1970 or any other year in the last 5 decades.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The groom wore his Vt. Air Guard dress uniform. The bride wore a white A-line dress, a (fake) fur collared shawl and her mothers wedding gloves from 30+ years ago. She carried a bouquet of flowers from their garden, ones that magically still bloomed, in spite of a recent frost. (The whole look was very Jacquie Kennedy!)

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

It is just what the couple wanted- a short-maybe 3 minute-ceremony, consisting of a couple of “I DO‘s… and then sealed with a kiss.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Then they waited for the marriage license..

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Did a little celebratory dance…

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

And they were on their way!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Congratulations, Chris and Genevra! May you live happily ever after!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer
