Emilie and Cory

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Emilie and Cory traveled from Quebec to Vermont to see the mountains, enjoy the outdoors AND to have an engagement portrait session while they were here. They told me that they had no Vermont connection other than they thought it would be a fun place to have pictures done.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

So, since they said that they love the outdoors and beautiful views, I took them on a whirlwind tour of some of my favorite local photo spots, starting with Oakledge Park Beach and ending at dusk at All Souls Gathering in Shelburne for a spectacular view of Lake Champlain.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

In between, we had some fun with hay bales, a barn (and a surprise Equus Photobomber) and one of Vermont’s many special covered bridges.

Ashley and Kate’s wedding

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Ashley and Kate were married last month at Camp Common Ground in Starksboro.
karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The couple hosted a “wedding weekend” at this family camp, where their guests gathered for an old fashioned summer camp experience, slept in cabins (some with multiple sets of bunk beds), ate in the mess hall, and just enjoyed Vermont in all it’s natural glory. All that and then culminating with a fabulous wedding and party? It doesn’t get much better than that!
karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

For Ashley and Kate, the big day started with a “little” storm and it didn’t let up for hours. But the wet weather didn’t rain on this wedding’s lively and lovely parade. If anything, the rain and mist added a richness of color to the enchanted surroundings.
karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The “getting ready” part of the day always makes such fun pictures. Ashley and Kate dressed separately with help from their own attendants and even their dog had fancy new duds for the event!

The ceremony, held in the hay barn, was magical and emotional. There were many moist eyes (including Ashley’s) throughout the service, which was officiated by a dear friend and included Kate’s sister singing with her father accompanying on guitar.

Along with the pronouncement of marriage came clear skies and an opportunity for cocktails and toasts outside the main hall. The brides’ two dads had everyone both giggling and tearing up.

Sadie and Christy’s wedding

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Sadie and Christie were married on a bright August day at Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, and the hills were indeed alive with the sound of both music- and- wait for itlove!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The couple took the traditional path of getting ready for their wedding separately. Sadie quietly dressed, with just some help from her mom, and Christy had close friends with her to assist with the details.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

There were many smiles when the women had their first look at each other in their wedding clothes. And for good reason–they both looked GORGEOUS!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The family portraits were festive and one of my favorite moments was when Sadie and Christy gave grandma smooches…
karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The wedding ceremony was held in the concert meadow, and Sadie‘s niece and nephew served as flower girl and ring bearer.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

With the broad vistas of Nebraska Valley as its backdrop, about 50 friends and family members witnessed the exchange of marriage vows and rings.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

And, 15 minutes later, Christy and Sadie were joined in marriage and they sealed this all-important moment with a kiss.
karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Then came the barrage hugs and congratulations and, of course, a few happy tears.

Onto the cocktail hour, held on the patio outside of the Mozart Room…

Meesh and Jill’s Wedding

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

“Home, Home on the Grange, where these brides have their FAB Wedding day…”[emoji musical note][emoji multiple musical notes][emoji musical note]

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Meesh and Jill celebrated their wedding weekend with 180 friends and family at the Vermont Grange in Brookfield. They took over the camp (many sleeping in cabins with bunk beds) and had a weekend of laughter and fun, complete with corn hole and camp fires. Of course, it culminated with the Wedding and an awesome reception!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Jill looked gorgeous in her white dress and Meesh equally so in her grey slacks and vest (and the greatest bow tie ever)! Their matching bouquets pulled the whole look together, along with their bridal party’s grey and purple attire. All of the flower arrangements were designed by Jill’s sister and they were really special!

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

It was a beautiful ceremony, officiated by a close friend, with readings and singing, 180 smiles and, yes, a few (happy) tears.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The reception began with lawn games and appetizers, before moving inside the main hall for dinner and dancing.

Check out this gorgeous cheese board, one of the couple’s wedding gifts !
karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

This was one of those weddings where the children were all so adorable, I couldn’t keep my camera off them…

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The dinner was catered by Donnell Collins , the amazing executive chef at Leunigs in Burlington. The food was delicious and plentiful, all served family style. Then came the toasts and lots of laugher.

karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

Instead of wedding cake, the delicious dessert was a selection of A-MA-ZING WHOOPIE PIES provided by TIME OUT FOR WHOOPIE– YUM!
karen pike photography Vermont wedding photographer

The party was so much fun, and all of the music was played from an IPOD set up to a sound system with hours of Meesh and Jill‘s favorite songs.

Here’s a slideshow looking back at this perfect day on the Grange. Enjoy! (But it is in FLASH, so you’ll need to trade your iPad for a laptop to watch it.)

One last one: Funny Foto Bomb!

Chris and Christine’s Jay Peak Wedding

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

Chris and Christine or (in math terminology), were married last month at the Jay Peak Resort. I had never been to this venue before but I definitely hope I get to go back again soon! The location is awesome and the couple couldn’t have had a more perfect Vermont celebration.

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

After some portraits of and the bridal party (against some pretty spectacular views), it was off to a bright and beautifully decorated barn for the ceremony. You would have never known that this little gem, tucked away in the woods just off a tree-lined footpath from the clubhouse was only a few yards from the golf course.

Christy and Sadie’s E Session

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

The first time I photographed Christy and Sadie as a couple was in 2010 when I asked them to help me practice some new posing techniques. I posted one of the portraits on my website in the “Engagement” section and it started an avalanche of questions from the couples’ families and friends regarding their apparent secret wedding plans! Oops!

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

So, it is with great joy that I am posting their true, honest-to-goodness Engagement portraits here on my blog and am looking forward to photographing their wedding at the end of the month.

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

This is a beautiful couple- inside and out- and I believe they really are made for each other. I have loved watching them grow together over the years and know they will have a wonderful life as Mrs. and Mrs…

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

Both Sadie and Christy work at FAHC, are active and love to hike and bike and run, and they are VERY competitive with each other (in a fun way!)

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

Private and Down-to-earth, Christy and Sadie aren’t big on PDA or lots of drama and I got a kick out of their response to the FREE HUGS lady at the Burlington Farmers Market during our picture session (both Christy and Sadie passed on the offer!)

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

They were much more comfortable on a beach all alone, where they were free to express their love and tenderness toward each other.

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

Here’s a fun and (dare I say “Sexy”) slideshow from the couple’s E session a few weeks ago:

PCC User Conference 2014

karen pike photography vermont photographer

karen pike photography vermont photographer
Who would have thought that one of my favorite work weeks of the year would be covering a Users Conference for a pediatric office management software company. I know, right?

karen pike photography vermont photographer

But my client, PCC (Physicians Computer Company), based in the Champlain Mill is, without a doubt, one of the coolest companies I’ve ever worked with and the staff is fun and smart and so great to be around.

karen pike photography vermont photographer

SO, for the second straight year, I covered their 3-day Users Conference, where over 250 Pediatric Doctors, office managers, nurse practitioners, billing and schedulers gathered from all over the country to both network and to learn the latest in “EHR Solutions” and the PCC software programs that they use to run their practices.

karen pike photography vermont photographer

This group seems more like a large extended family and PCC runs the yearly conference like a big Family Reunion.

…with many photo bombs…

karen pike photography vermont photographer

…and bunny ears…

karen pike photography vermont photographer

And, While there were lots of education-based workshops and hands-on learning, there was also ALOT of laughing, playing, eating chocolate, socializing after classes and, of course, a mobile portrait studio, where I photographed most everyone over the three days.

A WAY fun night for all after Day 2 at The ECHO Center:

Now, I am sure that many of my blog followers who are reading this think that there is absolutely no reason to watch the following slideshow recapping this event, but It really is a ton of fun, especially the studio portraits (and, of course, the great music!) So, if you have 6-7 minutes to spare, enjoy the show (in flash, so not viewable on an iPad- sorry!)

Journey On: My New Year’s Eve Photo Booth!

karen pike photography vermont photographer
karen pike photography vermont photographer

Gillian and Karen usher in the new year!

Each New Years Eve, friends gather at our home for food, fun and my annual FOTO BOOTH. It is always like a big arts and crafts project, trying to come up with something new and different. This year, I decided to pay homage to the “journey”…

karen pike photography vermont photographer

The most fun was creating bumper stickers to represent some of the highlights from 2013 for our group:

I’m already thinking about what the photo booth will be next year, but here are some of my faves from this year’s party:

Chris and Christine are engaged!

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

Chris and Christine are getting married next July and I recently took them and their sweet little dog to Clifford Pond in Starksboro for an an engagement session.

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

Clifford Pond is a magical place and a perfect location to do romantic portraits. I love bringing couples there for the first time and I always hope that they will find it as special as I do. So, on this perfect Fall afternoon, I encouraged Chris and Christine to bring along a blanket, some wine and cheese and just to breath in the beauty of their surroundings.

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

And they did.

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

And their dog was very grateful to be there, too!

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

I’m really looking forward to photographing Chris and Christine’s wedding next summer in Jay Peak, another gorgeous location that just adds to their magic!

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

I hope you enjoy this slideshow recapping the gorgeous afternoon at Clifford Pond….

Kate and Jan

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

It was truly a storybook wedding for Kate and Jan, who were married August 10 at Shelburne Farms, at the home of Kate’s dad and step mom. The sun was shining, cello music filled the air (talented friends of the bridal couple) and guests were greeted with cold lemonade as they made their way to the ceremony site facing Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains. Even some ducklings paddled in to watch the event.

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

Both Kate and Jan are concert violinists living in Los Angeles, and many of their musician friends flew to Vermont to be part of the celebration. On top of that, Jan is from the Netherlands so his best man, his sister and her husband had to hop the pond to get here! So, needless to say, it was an eclectic group of talented and fascinating people in attendance.

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

Still, the most important guest at the wedding was Kate and Jan’s love child, a 9-lb Chihuahua/Jack Russell rescue with a very big personality!

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

Dutch wedding trivia: the first bridal shower took place in Holland in the 16th century. When a father would not produce a dowry to recognize his daughter’s engagement, villagers got together and showered the couple with gifts to help them set up housekeeping.

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

I wish I had the opportunity to spend more time with Kate and Jan prior to their celebration. I only met them two days prior to the wedding, where we snuck in a small E session, just so I could get a feel for how best to photograph them. Of course, they are both gorgeous, so it really wasn’t hard to capture their beauty, both separately and together!

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

I’m not sure what’s prettier- the bride or the staircase!
karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

Picture Perfect setting…
karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

What a stunning couple!!!
karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

It was a beautiful ceremony (though a bit bright!) and I love when an “international” wedding includes some element or tradition in the wedding that comes from the other country. For Kate and Jan, this was a wine-drinking custom at the end of the ceremony, introduced by Jan’s sister (though I’m still not clear of the significance, Jan and Kate seemed to enjoy it!).

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

A joyous and love-filled reception followed the ceremony, with yummy food by Catering by Dale and rockin’ music provided by Daren Cassani from Top Hat Entertainment. Of course, there were also wonderful performances by several of the talented classical musicians. Why not? I had a “team” of almost 20 photographers shoot my wedding, all friends in the business who wanted to do for me what they did best!

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

Loads of smiles.
karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

Lots of hugs.

Friends.

karen pike photography vermont wedding photographer

Words really can’t do this wedding justice, so I invite you to sit back for the next 8 minutes, listen to some gorgeous music and watch this slideshow that recaps what a wonderful and memorable day it was for all.
